SmartCat 97
SmartCat provides an easy way to centralize all those files that you hardly ever use, but are cluttering up your disk drives, and organize the piles of CD-Roms and floppy disks that have been collected from your favorite magazines.
To achieve this, SmartCat has three main functions:
- The archive function, enables you to select groups of files or folders and move these to a centralized archive pool of volumes (floppy disks, ZIP drives, JAZ drives, etc.) and if required, remove the original files and folders. Once files have been archived, then they may be quickly restored back from the archive volume or accessed directly from the archive, using SmartCat Explorer.
Cataloguing
- The catalogue function, enables any disk or CD-Rom to be catalogued. Once a disk is catalogued any file it contains, including the contents of compressed files, can be quickly located and accessed using SmartCat Explorer.
SmartCat Explorer
- This is the main interface for SmartCat. The Explorer window works in the same way as Windows' Explorer, except that SmartCat is exploring archived files and catalogued disks. From this Explorer window, you can perform all SmartCat functions, including archiving files, cataloguing disks and organizing your archives and catalogues into subject grouped folders and sub-folders.
SmartCat is integrated with Windows' Explorer so you may Archive files or Catalog disks directly from within Explorer, without having to have SmartCat running.
There are three SmartCat functions in Windows' Explorer and these can be accessed from Windows' Explorers right-mouse pop-up menu. The functions are:
- This function archives the files and/or folders that are currently selected in Explorer. SmartCat will use the default archive settings and automatically generate a name for the archive created.
Catalog
- This function will catalog the disk or folder currently selected in Explorer. Before the catalog takes place, the Catalog Details window will be displayed to allow the options to be changed.
Archive with Options...
- This function is only available when the <left shift> key is held down whilst clicking the right-mouse button in Explorer. It works in the same way as the above Archive function, but allows the archive settings and the archive name to be chosen before the archive takes place.
